What is schema markup?
Schema markup is structured data added to a page so search engines can read what it is rather than infer it. Google reads it as JSON-LD in a script tag and uses it to build rich results: star ratings, FAQ accordions, breadcrumbs, event dates, product prices. It does not rank a page on its own, but it changes how much space the page occupies in the results.
Where do I put the JSON-LD code?
Inside a script tag with type="application/ld+json", in the head of the page it describes. One page can carry several blocks — an Article and a BreadcrumbList, for instance. The rule that matters: the markup must describe content that is visible on that page, or Google treats it as spam.
Which schema types are worth adding?
Start with what your page actually is. Organization and WebSite belong site-wide; Article on editorial content; BreadcrumbList wherever you have a hierarchy; FAQPage where you genuinely answer questions; Product with Offer on commerce pages. Adding types that do not match the page earns nothing and risks a manual action.
Do I need a separate generator for FAQ schema?
